In January, 2005 we entered into a research collaboration with Pfizer Inc in the field of enhanced protein production. This collaboration was expanded in January, 2006. Pfizer is funding research at Sangamo and we are providing our ZFP technology for Pfizer to assess its feasibility for use in mammalian cell-based protein pharmaceutical production. This technology is also being evaluated by Amgen Inc. and Medarex, Inc. |

Enhanced Production using ZFP TF and ZFN-Engineered Cells
Protein pharmaceuticals manufactured with genetically modified cells accounted for more than $32 billion in annual worldwide sales in 2003. It is reported that monoclonal antibodies generated sales in excess of $6 billion in 2005.
Industry experts believe that the introduction of new protein pharmaceuticals and growth in demand for current protein pharmaceuticals could lead to a significant shortfall in capacity over the next five years. We are actively engaged in the engineering and development of ZFP TF and ZFN-modified mammalian cells for the enhanced production of pharmaceutical proteins.
